The location
Phnom Penh has a rich history and culture, as evidenced by its many temples, museums, and landmarks. The most famous landmark in the city is the Royal Palace, which was built in the 1860s and is home to the current king of Cambodia. Another popular attraction in Phnom Penh is the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, which was formerly a high school that was converted into a prison and interrogation center by the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s. The museum now serves as a memorial to the victims of the regime and provides insight into the tragic history of Cambodia.
