How to plan your 2023 leave days

April

Book four days off to get ten days of holiday/Book eight days off to get 16 days of holiday

The long Easter weekend has a holiday on Friday and Monday, so you could book off one week or both to take a break in April. The week before Easter will give you ten days off in a row using just four leave days while taking both weeks will give you 16 days of holiday for eight leave days.

May

Book four days off to get nine days of holiday/Book eight days off to get 14 days of holiday

Monday, 1 May, is Labour Day, while the following Monday (8 May) is Victory Day. This gives French workers two four-day weeks in a row. You could take the first week of May off by using four leave days and getting nine days of holiday. You could also double up and take two weeks off, booking eight days of leave and getting 14 days of holiday.

There are some more opportunities to maximise your time off coming up in May:

  • Ascension Day is on Thursday, 18 May, so booking the Friday off will let you enjoy a four-day weekend for just one day of leave.
  • Whit Monday falls on 29 May, so you could take that week off and get nine days of holiday for four days of leave.

July

Book four days off to get nine days of holiday

This is the perfect time to take a mid-year break. Thanks to the Bastille Day holiday on Friday, 14 July, you can book four days of leave and take nine days of holiday.

August

Book four days off to get nine days of holiday

Assumption Day falls in the middle of August, allowing you another opportunity to get nine days of holiday for just four days of annual leave.

October/November

Book four days off to get nine days of holiday

Wednesday, 1 November, is All Saints’ Day. Taking Monday to Friday off will give you a nine-day break, using only four days of leave.

December

Book three days off to get nine days of holiday

The Christmas Day and Boxing Day holidays fall on a Monday and Tuesday, so if you book off the rest of the week, you’ll get nine days of holiday while using three days of leave.

Take charge of your work-life balance in the coming year by planning ahead and strategically booking your leave days to maximise your time off.
