Büroräumen in 117, Chausseestraße

Chausseestraße 117 is an architecturally striking and historically significant building complex in Berlin-Mitte. The listed former residential and commercial building of AG für Automobilunternehmungen was constructed between 1913 and 1914, presumably based on a design by Arnold Kuthe. Particularly distinctive is the neoclassical street façade, whose clear pilaster arrangement and sculptural decorative elements give the building a representative, almost monumental appearance. The courtyard areas are also historically remarkable: two enclosed courtyard complexes were built on the elongated plot. According to the State Monuments Office, the second courtyard once housed Berlin’s first multi-story parking garage, giving the ensemble special significance in terms of urban and transport history. The attic figures on the façade—including one holding an automobile—also reference the original use and history of the site. It is also historically noteworthy that the courtyards of Chausseestraße 117 were later used as a production site by Konski & Krüger. From the 1930s onward, and especially during the Second World War, the well-known Enigma cipher machine was manufactured there. Today, our premises are located in the rear courtyard of Chausseestraße 117 and extend across six floors. The site thus combines the ensemble’s distinctive historical fabric with a spatial structure that unfolds within the interior of the building complex.
