Watch the talk for his 6 tips on managing the new business complexity without becoming over complicated.
Tim Ferriss: Smash fear, learn anything
Productivity expert Tim Ferriss provides us with humorous anecdotes detailing his history of fears, and how he managed to get over them. This self-deprecating talk encourages people to deconstruct their fears, especially those gained in childhood – the one question we should all ask is “What’s the worst that can happen?” In most cases, fear is actually your friend – an indicator of what you should be doing. Indeed, fear is usually the factor holding you back from achieving your dreams – once you deal with that fear, you have the power to learn anything.
Nigel Marsh: How to make work-life balance work
Author and marketer Nigel Marsh tackles the issue of work-life balance in his funny, cutting yet meaningful TED Talk. He comments that there is much talk around the subject of work life balance, but it doesn’t really tackle the heart of the issue – there are certain jobs and career choices that are incompatible with being meaningfully engaged on day-to-day basis. Indeed, we have to be responsible for setting and enforcing our work boundaries, and accept that we cannot do it all in one day. Further, the idea that we will be able to rest and relax when we’re retired is a trap. In order to approach life in a more balanced way, there are small changes that we can make – it doesn’t necessitate a dramatic upheaval. In this way, people will be able to transform the quality of their relationships and daily life.
