December/January
Book 4 days off to get nine days of holiday
The new year begins on a Sunday, making Monday the 2nd of January a substitute holiday. This means you can use four leave days to get nine days off (Saturday the 31st of December to Sunday the 8th of January). It’s a great way to ease into the start of a new working year feeling well-rested.
April/May
Get up to 16 days of holiday for eight leave days
Between the long Easter weekend and the May bank holiday, there are plenty of opportunities to maximise your time off this spring.
- Use four leave days between the 3rd and 6th to get 10 days off
- Wait until after Easter. You can still use just four leave days between the 11th and 14th to get 10 days off, from Good Friday on the 7th of April to the 16th.
If you want to take a family trip, this is the ideal time of year to combine the weeks before and after the Easter weekend. You could use eight leave days and take a total of 16 days off to travel. (Start your holiday on Saturday the 1st of April and enjoy time off all the way through to Sunday the 16th)
If you prefer to wait a little longer for your break, the end of April and the beginning of May will also give you a chance to maximise your leave. With the Early May Bank Holiday falling on a Monday, you can:
- Take five leave days (Monday the 24th of April to Friday the 28th) and enjoy 10 days off
- Use four leave days (Tuesday the 2nd of May to Friday the 5th) and get nine days off
- Combine these two weeks to use nine leave days and get a full 16 days off, starting on Saturday the 22nd of April and ending on Sunday the 7th of May.
June

Need a mid-year mini break? The Spring Bank Holiday on Monday the 29th of May means you can take four days of leave and get nine days off (Saturday the 27th of May to Sunday the 4th of June).

December/January 2024
Just eight days of leave will get you 17 days off
After the final push towards year-end, give yourself time to unwind with a proper December break. Taking three days of leave between the 27th and 29th will get you 10 days off.
Better yet, you can have a long festive holiday by booking five more leave days the week before, using a total of eight leave days to get 17 days off.
If you’re working through December, take advantage of the New Year Bank Holiday on Monday the 1st of January and book leave from the 2nd to the 5th. This will cost you four leave days and give you nine days off.
