The report has revealed low levels of engagement among US employees \u2013 in fact, a mere 30% of Americans surveyed were deemed to be engaged at work.<\/p>\n<h2>What does this mean for their employers, and what steps can be taken to rectify the situation?<\/h2>\n<p>The Gallup survey covered more than 150,000 American employees of various education levels, working in various industries. Those surveyed were categorised as follows:<\/p>\n<p>1. <strong>Actively engaged<\/strong> \u2013 involved, enthusiastic and willing to go the extra mile for their company<br \/>\n2. <strong>Not engaged<\/strong> \u2013 putting in time but emotionally disconnected from work<br \/>\n3. <strong>Actively disengaged<\/strong> \u2013 unhappy at work and likely to act out that unhappiness<\/p>\n<p>To measure engagement, Gallup used the time-tested <a href=\"http:\/\/gallup12.questionpro.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Q12 survey<\/a>, which examines 12 areas of the employee\u2019s workplace that have been proven to affect performance. Findings showed that throughout the American workplace, 52% of those surveyed can be classified as \u201cnot engaged\u201d, and 18% are classified as \u201cactively disengaged\u201d. Interestingly, Gallup\u2019s graph below shows little fluctuation over the past 12 years.
