The switch to remote working ushered in a new era for the future of work, with millions of onsite workers adapting to unprecedented circumstances, changing the way we work forever.<\/p>\n

While demand for flexible workspace<\/a> in the UK has dropped to roughly 20% of pre-COVID-19 levels and does not look set to recover soon, many providers of flex space are remaining open, often with skeleton staff, until government policy advises differently.<\/p>\n

The major UK cities at present appear to be the hardest hit but are also likely to be some of the first to recover when the current lockdown ends and demand picks back up, something Instant is already seeing the early signs of in Asia.<\/p>\n

With most of the workforce having settled into a new kind of normal, CFOs already see the cost benefits of flexibility around remote teams, with 74%<\/a> planning to move at least 5% into permanent remote positions post-COVID-19.<\/p>\n

Due to the pandemic, one global bank told us they would look to cut their fixed office space footprint by 70-80% when lease events allow over the coming years, and others are predicting 50-60% cost reductions.<\/p>\n

A global law firm in Hong Kong<\/a> echoed a similar sentiment, saying \u201cwe have successfully operated with less than 10% of people in the office for over a month with the balance of people working from home \u2013 so what amount of office space do businesses really require?\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n

One recent study estimates that up to 30%<\/a> of the global workforce will be working from home multiple days a week by the end of 2021, a trend which reinforces how important flexibility is to the future of work.<\/p>\n
