Rather
excitingly, the
Busworks building, North Road, London N7, will, for a limited period, be
exhibiting a selection of art from Italian born Irma Irsara. Her contemporary dyed
paper pulp work, which is featured throughout the light and airy reception at Buswork’s
United House, was produced in the open air
on a North London allotment, where the natural light, weather conditions and
the availability of organic material were important factors in defining the
final work.
The process involved
building up each image, layer upon layer, with dyed paper pulp, using hand-made
paper techniques. Other materials, like onion skins, rhurbarb and artichokes
were also incorporated into some of the work, either embedded in the pulp or
stripped away, wet or dry, to reveal the layers beneath. There is a subtle sense
of playfulness in these abstract works and something reassuring in the use of
natural materials, homegrown from Irma’s allotment.
A spokesperson for
Busworks commented “We’re thrilled to be working with such an exciting artist
and privileged to be exhibiting her work in United House. It has brought a new
vibrancy to our work space and has given our tenants something to chat about in
our communal lounge! Being a tenant of Busworks means being part of a dynamic
business community where ideas are shared and businesses grow, so associating
ourselves with such a compelling artist seemed a very natural thing to do.”
Instant has a long
standing and successful relationship with the Busworks team and look forward to
working with the team for years to come.
